In 2025 I will still be using the Air

I wrote about the MacBook Air (2020) M1 recently and because of covid I haven’t spent much time with it. Over the past few days, however, I have been able to use it again and once again I remain surprised every time I use it at just how quick and responsive it is.

When I consider that my daughter is still using my iMac from 2010 and then look at the sheer power available I am certain that I will be using this laptop in 2025 and likely for much longer. Space may be a problem over time, although iCloud may continue to do the heavy lifting, and aside from that I suspect that it will just run and run.

£999 is expensive for a laptop, but for an Apple device with this much power under the hood I have no doubt that it will pay for itself in the long run.

  1. I agree with you about the longevity of Macs Shaun. My 2009 MacBook Pro is still perfectly serviceable although sadly it’s age has prevented me from getting the latest OS updates for a few years – El Capitan is the latest it’ll run. It has benefitted from a RAM, SSD and had its battery replaced and frankly runs as well now if not better than it did originally.
I also have a late 2013 iMac 21”. This “non upgradeable” machine has been given a big SSD and more ram by a local tech and runs faster than it did at purchase. I love it and it’s not going anywhere soon. Both fantastic value for money over the long term.

  2. I’m looking forward to an iMac with the M1 or its successor.
