Promaster Professional Diver 1000m Watch: why?


The Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Professional Diver 1000m is, as the name implies, water-resistant to 1000 meters. It also has an automatic helium release valve, and Citizen is proud to proclaim it as a real saturation diver. Professional divers who require things like time in decompression chambers will of course value these features, but most people who own this watch will likely never get a chance to appreciate the fact that the watch is capable of such feats. None of that matters. What is important is that Citizen (and, of course, several other brands) continue to produce genuine utility watches. The comments following the article sort of sum up the craziness of a product like this. I like the ridiculous size, I really do, but why would anyone spend so much money because it can go down to 1,000 metres when you consider what humans can do-

Diving off the coast of Dahab, Egypt, Gabr reached a depth of 1,090 feet 4 inches (332.35 meters). The previous record holder for the deepest scuba dive, Nuno Gomes of South Africa, also dove off the coast of Dahab, in 2005, reaching a depth of 1,044 feet (318.21 m).
