More at _DavidSmith. I read another piece which estimated that the cost per GB of storage to Apple was $0.55 on 2013 and thus it is likely much lower now. It seems crazy to not have 32GB as the baseline when it would only cost a few dollars more. We know that there are some other supply issues, but ultimately this could produce a bad experience for many customers and it seems that Apple is not worried about that at all because it continues down the same path. All very odd.
