Remember when Apple used to include headphones, a power adaptor, a charging dock, and a cleaning cloth with the iPhone? They used to deliver a complete end-to-end experience without worrying about having a compatible cable or adaptor or charging brick. Apple appears to have changed. As I consumer I agree, every other part of me understands the business approach of cutting stuff that customers will put up with.
