Trump’s tariffs are of course nonsense and use made up figures to calculate the so called tariffs other countries charge the US. They then presented charging just over 50% against the dreamed up numbers as a good thing. Ignoring the history of tariffs and the fact that they never work for anyone, off he went.

It’s a disaster now and will be a worse one soon, but this may well go wrong quite quickly.

If certain areas, such as the UK, choose not to retaliate normal people may do so in big numbers by not buying American products. It’s not easy at all. I think of Apple first of all, but if my whole world is being downgraded by Trump I would find a way to move away from Apple. Maybe an Asian Android phone? Oh, Android is Google, damn! And imagine the iPhone being built by Americans? Nope. Not anti-American at all, but if it was built in the UK it would likely be poor compared to what we have now. Sad to say, but the East are masters at these things albeit with questionable standards along the way.

I could move away from Amazon. It would not be easy, but it’s doable. Netflix? YouTube? Oh, now starting to lose all of my online entertainment. It is difficult because big tech is dominated by American companies.

American cars? Yep, no problem- would never buy an American car. American food- ever tried American fruit?!? Trump talked about Europe and other countries not taking American food- that’s because the standards for meat in particular and other produce are so much lower than ours- we wouldn’t eat it.

People did not move away from Tesla purely because of what Musk is doing. They did it because he is aligned to Trump and it would be foolish to underestimate just how much the majority of the world hates Trump at this time. I love America and the American people are no different to us. However, I hate Trump and what he is doing, and will be less likely to buy American products in the future- I think it will happen naturally which could be a big problem for the US.
