Tapestry: the best new app in a decade

Browsing your timeline in Tapestry is totally private. There’s no server tracking what you’re loading and no third-parties watching as you scroll or search through content. Even our ads are private! More here.

Tweetbot (April 2011 – January 2023) was a very special app. It took away a lot of the clutter from Twitter and made the experience feel more natural and, dare I say, more Apple.

Musk then took away Tweetbot just before he took away any enjoyment Twitter offered and today it is just a cesspit of negativity. I had missed those days when Twitter and Tweetbot gave us a hugely positive and useful social network experience.

This week, Iconfactory has presented us with Tapestry and I must say that it is easily the best new app I have used in many years, probably the best since I first saw Tweetbot.

It took me an hour to realise just how impressive it is and there are some obvious and more subtle reasons why this is so.

Your data is private which is always a positive.

The design is sublime as would be expected from Iconfactory with single taps powering everything and a visual space that makes varied feeds flow in a vertical line that is naturally understandable.

Whether it is Bluesky, RSS feeds, YourTube, sub-Reddits and much more, you can activate what you need and it is instantly all there for you. It’s like a catchall that will remove, or highly limit, your use of many other apps.

Pay a reasonable amount per year and you can really tweak the interface and how your content comes in- if you spend time getting it right, the experience will only be enhance further. What I did notice, however, was that the content is still logical and clear even if you don’t tweak it. It feels safe and positive in a world where so many digital offerings are the opposite.

Sometimes it is hard to find the words to explain why an app is just right, but this one is. Try it now!
