The Billion-Dollar Disinformation Campaign

The president’s reelection campaign was then in the midst of a multimillion-dollar ad blitz aimed at shaping Americans’ understanding of the recently launched impeachment proceedings. Thousands of micro-targeted ads had flooded the internet, portraying Trump as a heroic reformer cracking down on foreign corruption while Democrats plotted a coup. An alternate information ecosystem was taking shape around the biggest news story in the country, and I wanted to see it from the inside… More here.

This pisses me off. We all know it is happening, at least those of us who have read a book in our lifetimes, but it is spinning out of control now. Misinformation is spreading about the Coronavirus as well and it is all playing into the hands of one group of people. 1. Don’t know that I’d throw Johnson in there. It’s harder to use a disinformation campaign in a true parliamentary democracy. At least that’s been my experience and hope in Canada.

I just read this article that there are no swing voters. If that’s the case, then Trump’s campaign is to ensure that people who would vote for him get out to vote. It’s sad to consider that elections might be won or lost based on who turns out the vote.
