What Apple still needs to do

Apple may have knocked me sideways with the quality of the AirPods, but there remain a few areas in which the company needs to improve its offerings.

Some of these are quite small, but together they offer holes in the experience that could very easily be filled. This is not a comprehensive list, just a few annoyances that crop up from time to time.

5GB of iCloud space

A complete money grab if you ask me. It’s just not enough for anyone who wants to back up their device.

Lack of iCloud usability

The 200GB option is very well priced and something the likes of Dropbox do not offer, but you can’t do much with it. It’s just a block of only space that you pay for because Apple does not let families backup their devices any other way.

Family (not) Sharing

5GB per person or to backup you need to pay more per person. Family Sharing is useful in some instances (if you can get it to work), but the fact that you cannot share storage takes me back to the money grab aspect of iCloud.

iPhone battery life

Admittedly difficult to fix, but Apple’s obsession with thinness doesn’t help.

Default apps

Let me choose my own iOS web browser or email client please. I can in macOS.

A 128GB iPhone SE

Please!

I think that’s enough to be going on with. Any I have missed?

  1. Please don’t tell them that we can designate our own web browser in MacOS. They’re trying to iOSify MacOS and that’s just be One More Thing™.
