Sack Gary Lineker for a tweet?

Are you wetting your pants over something Gary Lineker said on Twitter about something that isn’t to do with his job? Are you demanding the BBC give Gary his first ever straight red, because that’s the sort of thing we demand these days, presumably in the absence of being able to achieve anything actually meaningful? Are you pretty sure you didn’t fight in two world wars just so a football presenter could have a compassionate opinion you disagree with? Are you three years old? More at The Guardian.

It’s crazy. This entire mess has occured because Gary Lineker tweeted the following 3 days ago-

“The treatment by some towards these young refugees is hideously racist and utterly heartless. What’s happening to our country?”

How terrible of him! Seriously, the way some of the press in the UK have handled this ‘something and nothing’ story takes me all the way back to the Brexit vote. It appears to me that politics and the mainstream press are both headed for the gutter quicker than ever before, and that is such a shame. Politics and the press are hugely important and I dread to think what happens when they are both corrupted and negative to the point that they cannot be turned around.
