I reviewed the quartz PRX back in 2021 and rather liked it. Like so many other watches it did not last long for me and was sold on, but the automatic version was then released which added some time keeping credentials to the product offering.
The PRX is still available today, it is very popular and it costs £640 for the automatic version. That is not expensive in the watch industry, but it is expensive for a brand such as Tissot and a movement that is somewhat basic. There is nothing wrong with the PRX and it’s a worthy purchase, but for me it lacks heritage and is far too popular to offer anything special on the wrist.

My darling wife sees the world differently and like me has growing fascination with watches. She is also quite canny and decided to get me the best Christmas present I could have. Yes I got it early, but that’s because I was involved in the purchase (watches are too personal to just buy and hope they are loved) and I have to say that I am somewhat enamoured by it already.
Take a look at the top photo. That is the present she bought me, a 1970 (my birth year) Omega Constellation which is in very good condition and which has been serviced recently. It is running perfectly, has tons of vintage charm and includes a world class movement that will survive another 55 years with ease.
Compare it visually to the PRX and then consider the brand, the heritage and the craftsmanship that is displayed in the bracelet, the dial and the overall consistency of the entire watch.

How much did this piece of history cost? £600.
It is a lottery at times when buying a vintage watch because you do have to know what you are buying, but when you strike lucky the rewards are clear. It helps that I only buy vintage watches from About Time Watches, but in my head there is no comparison between a vintage Omega and a brand new Tissot.
I can think of no other product category where a decades old version of something new works better, looks better and is ultimately a much better solution.
