21 years ago I said to my son Tom, who was 4 years old at the time, that I would take him to see the World Cup when Scotland next qualified. I really did not expect him to be 25 years old before that would happen.

Alas, we will not be going because we would not want to go through the security procedures the US has in place now and my health would prohibit it anyway, but it was an amazing match to watch with the possibility of qualifying changing a total of six times.

At the start of the match Denmark were top of the group. Scotland scored and went top, Denmark equalised and went top, Scotland scored again and went top, Denmark equalised again and were top. On the 90th minute Scotland scored again and then another goal in the 98th minute to seal the deal. A crazy match indeed.

Three world class goals from a Scotland team that, sadly, look poor to me. I am not expecting much at the World Cup, but at least we are there and it’s something to look forward to.
