IX&DAO Engineer – probably the best value watch I have ever seen

This watch is conflicting to me. It is an obvious homage to my grail watch, the IWC Ingenieur, but it is one that offers many surprises.

A quick round up of the specs follows-

316L Stainless Steel case
Sapphire Crystal
PT5000 movement (The PT5000 is a mechanical, automatic-winding movement produced by HK Precision Technology. It uses the design of the ETA 2824-2, a Swiss workhorse known for its reliability and modularity).
100 meters water resistance
Super-LumiNova on hour markers and hands
Integrated Stainless Steel Bracelet with Butterfly Clasp

Those specs are decent and would suggest a certain price level, but it is the sheer quality of this watch which makes the price remarkably low. You can expect to pay approx £250 if you want one and despite the fact that it is hugely impressive I am undecided on whether to keep this review model or send it back.

The lime works throughout the night, the bracelet is very comfortable and the clasp is aligned perfectly with screw pins holding it all together. The crystal is perfect and the brushed / polished finishing is better than I have seen on watches that cost more than £2,000.

I don’t normally like homage watches because they typically forgo a design team in favour of a photocopier, but here we have a watch of such good quality that it is hard to ignore.

The IWC is +£10,000 and this is less than £250. It really makes me wonder what value you get from a brand name.
