Hemingwrite unites all the beloved Smart Typewriter features in a raw aluminum chassis with green keycaps. Each device is polished by hand and individually finished… More here.
I was recently asked if I would like to review the Freewrite Traveler, not by Freewrite themselves, and I have to pass. The product costs £511 and consists of a small e-ink screen above a Psion-like keyboard. I understand the intention of such a device and suspect it could be useful for writing longer works, but the very small screen is a big downside for me. The device pictured above costs £1,023 and it is certainly unique, but I feel the company is not getting this correct at all.
Only a mega hipster would consider that much money for devices so basic no matter how well made they are and the alternatives are plenty. An old MacBook that costs less than £200 would do the job, turn off notifications on any of your devices and use a half-decent keyboard with it (basically have some willpower) or simply use what you have an concentrate.
If the Traveler had a full width screen and was priced at around £200 I would see potential, but at +£500 it is ridiculous.

Ya, I worked for Tandy for a few months in Texas after I graduated from college. That was a major seller for us. Everyone from cab drivers to police departments wanted them for use in their cars. It had a great keyboard for writing too.

Can’t believe it’s worth the asking price they want today.
