The problem with wellness trackers

For context, I received Whoop as a gift last Christmas. I learned some helpful things in the first months and even bought one for my wife. Though in the last 9 months of using Whoop, there have been no new insights and the experience has become more of a hassle trying to keep it charged and clean so it doesn’t cause a rash on my skin… More here.

The Reddit post above is actually about how confusing it can be to cancel your membership to what is likely the most expensive commercial health tracker you can buy. It isn’t actually that confusing, but the point about ‘no new insights’ is a valid one.

Fitness trackers like the Apple Watch are tracking your movements, but trackers that only really focus on health stats can have a hard time offering anything new to the user, and this is particularly problematic if you are spending a lot each month to see the same data over and over again.

Yes it can be reassuring, but I have always believed that some element of variety is needed for long term use to keep the value proposition positive in the mind of the person paying the money.
