
A mum struggling with complications after giving birth says she begged to see a specialist – but was told to pay for private care.
Elizabeth Andrews, 28, from Taunton, Somerset, had a baby in February and said she is still suffering physically and mentally.
A report by Healthwatch England, external suggests her experience of being advised to pay for private care is becoming more common, with Louise Ansari, CEO, warning of a ‘two-tier’ health system.

I am stunned that this is news because I know 5 people who have had to go to private healthcare this year for problems that needed sorting.
I recently had to go private, but then hit my private healthcare limit which cost me +£1,000 and so had to go back to the NHS. A 3.5 month wait for the next test put me straight back to private healthcare where I am now paying for each test out of my own money. The 30+ years of paying National Insurance for my NHS treatment is starting to bug me now.
