I woke up this morning, saw the impending US election result and felt that ‘the day after Brexit’ feeling stir up again.
How on earth could anyone vote for this man? He is a terrible person; criminal charges, sexual charges, not paying contractors, divisive language and everything else that goes to create someone you would never want to be close to.
There is no sense is believing that he could be a world leader and yet here he is as the most powerful man in the world again. It is heartbreaking, enraging and for people like me hard to understand.
But…
People like me, and many of you, live our lives largely unafraid of running out of money, dealing with violent threats each day or having to survive. Our lives are fine, they really are, and we don’t understand just how bad getting through each day is for so many people. They need someone to cling to, someone who speaks like them and who doesn’t just repeat the same old cliches about the American Dream.
Yes he is terrible for climate change, he will do little good for anyone and he is obviously blaming immigrants for the problems in the US, just as Farage does in the UK, to get elected.
It is a sad day for people like me, but I am starting to understand just how much of a bubble I live in and how quickly I dismiss those who don’t talk like me and who, on the surface, appear to not be very intelligent.
We are all responsible for people like Trump getting power and we really do need to start understanding what is really happening out there.
