Six-year-old Bradley Lowery, whose plight touched the lives of many people, has died after a long illness.

The Sunderland fan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma – a rare type of cancer – when he was 18 months old.

For those of you outside the UK, Bradley brought rivals football fans together, inspired millions of people and brought a tear to many an eye yesterday when the news was announced.

It is one of the most sorrowful questions we can ask ourselves; why do children have to die?
